The former Natwest bank building in Southwell is one of two closed branches going under the hammer at auction with a guide price in excess of £450,000.

The former Natwest on Church Street, a Grade II-listed building, is being auctioned in Birmingham on December 14.

Natwest closed its Southwell branch in October following a decline in transactions which it said was due to a rise in mobile and online banking.

The 2,637sq ft building includes a former banking hall, office accommodation, storage, toilets and strong room with a 0.4-acre rear garden and carpark for two vehicles.

In October, Blue Monkey Brewery withdrew a planning application to change the use of the building to a pub and restaurant.

The application attracted strong opposition from people living near the former bank, Southwell Town Council and publicans in the town.

A former Natwest branch in Bingham is going under the hammer at the same auction with a guide price in excess of £250,000.

The Church Street branch closed in September after also suffering a decline in transactions.

The building, which has a 2,050sq ft ground floor and 554sq ft first floor, includes a banking hall, office accommodation, ancillary storage and strong room, former staff room, storage accommodation and toilets.
