A Newark Police Community Support Officer stole uniform and equipment to sell on internet auction site eBay, a court was told.

PCSO Dean Aloy, 33, stole a police radio, a stab vest, body armour, a fleece coat, police-issue trousers and cycling trousers from Nottinghamshire Police over the space of three years.

Aloy denied four counts of theft by an employee between September 2011 and April 2014 but changed his pleas to guilty just as he was about to go on trial at Nottingham Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The court heard Aloy, of Walcott, Lincoln, had the items because he had an interest in emergency services memorabilia.

An ambulance worker who monitored Ebay for radios used by the emergency services spotted the equipment which Aloy had stolen, prosecutor Mr David Miles said.

He made some enquiries and discovered that the radio belonged to Nottinghamshire Police and had been used by Aloy.

He also found the other items listed for sale, which could all be traced back to Nottinghamshire Police, Mr Miles said.

"The thought of the radio falling into the wrong hands or someone using it to interfere with the emergency services and their communication systems is the most serious part of that offence," said Mr Miles.

The police radio had a value of £110.99, the stab vest, £45, the fleece, £28.99, the police-issue trousers, £11.18 and the cycling trousers, £14.49, the court was told.

PCSO Aloy began his role at Worksop before later moving to Newark Police Station.

Mr Simon Cobb, defending, said Aloy had the items because he had an interest in emergency services' memorabilia and was looking to offload a few items from his collection.

"He has lost both his position as a PCSO and his good name," he said.

"That's something he will have to bear."

Presiding magistrate Mr Clive Allen said due to the seriousness of the offences, the Probation Service would have to prepare a report.

Aloy will be sentenced at a later date.

Nottinghamshire Police declined to comment when approached by the Advertiser while the court proceedings are still ongoing.
