Former President visits Newark
The first President of Zambia, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, will visit Newark this afternoon for the launch of an ambitious project to send thousands of bicycles to Africa.
Dr Kaunda will receive keys for empty factory premises at Newark that are going to house a regional centre for renovating bicycles and wheelchairs for Africa.
The new centre, run jointly by the Nottinghamshire Police Aid Convoys and the Magnus Church of England School, will engage youngsters from the area in carrying out the work.
A smaller scale project has been running for pupils at the Magnus for around two years.
Dr Kaunda will this afternoon meet staff at the school who are involved in the project.
He will also visit the charity’s warehouse in Mansfield this morning and attend a lunch reception at Kelham Hall.
