Conservative MP Caroline Johnson backs Boris Johnson for Prime Minister just three months after demanding he go in best interests of country
A Tory MP who wanted Boris Johnson to resign just three months ago is now backing him to become Prime Minister.
Dr Caroline Johnson, who was vice-chairman of the Conservative Party at the time, told Times Radio today that she was backing Boris for a return to Number 10, following his replacement Liz Truss's miniscule 44 days in residence.
This is after the Sleaford and North Hykeham MP wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on July 7 resigning as vice-chairman of the Conservative Party.
In that letter, Dr Johnson wrote: "This is not a decision I have taken lightly, and it has been an honour to work as part of your team.
"I have been loyal and supported you throughout your time as Prime Minister since you took office in 2019."
She goes on to express her pleasure at what was achieved, but said: "It is with great sadness, however, that I recognise that over time the cumulative effect of your errors of judgement and domestic actions have squandered the goodwill of out great Party. Conservative colleagues, and many of my constituents.
"Thank you for the opportunity to serve and for all the positive achievements that have come with your leadership of the last three years. It is important now that you make a dignified exit so that you will still be remembered for your successes. I believe that attempting to stay when the writing is on the wall can only damage our Party and then our country."
Dr Johnson has been approached for comment.
