Four years gaol for drug dealer
A 21-year-old described by a judge as a decent young man from a good family has been gaoled for four years for selling drugs.
Michael Kelly, of Cromwell Road, Newark, admitted supplying cocaine, and driving while unfit through drugs, when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.
The prosecutor, Miss Sarah Munro, said Kelly was seen by police driving off from a layby on the A617, near Newark, just before 10pm, on September 22.
Bags of cocaine were found in the car and in his wallet. A further 13 bags were in his bedroom.
He admitted taking cocaine in the layby and giving some to his friends in the car.
Kelly said he bought £600 to £800-worth a month and sold it in £40 deals. He sold four bags that night.
“His drug taking began as an extension of having a few drinks in the pub. The selling was really just to show off. It was bravado,” said his barrister, Miss Anna Soubry.
She said Kelly had turned his back on drugs.
But Judge Michael Pert told Kelly: “People who sell class A drugs go to prison for substantial periods. If I make an exception in your case others will come along and say: ‘I am an exception.’”
