Free community workshops to create exhibition of stories as part of Newark Book Festival
Stories from around the world will be shared as part of Newark Book Festival.
Seven free workshops will take place throughout June and July with drama facilitator Michael McCredie and an illustrator.
An exhibition of stories and illustrations important to local people will be created and traditional stories from across the world explored.
Leanne Taylor from Newark Book Festival said: "We are really excited about these workshops which are free and open to families. Sessions will be fun, hands-on and participants will develop their ideas into new short stories which will be recorded and illustrated. Expect drawing, story boards, performance opportunities and the chance to learn about new stories from different cultures."
The workshops will take place at Millgate Community Centre on: Saturday, June 18; June 25, July 2, July 9, and July 23 from 1pm to 3pm. And on Wednesday, July 27, and Friday, July 29, from 11am to 1pm.
The workshops are part of an outreach programme for Newark Book Festival which has been funded by the Community Fund.
Festival producer Sara Bullimore said: "Now a mainstay in the Newark cultural calendar, Newark Book Festival grows each year, encompassing more talks and workshops, an ever-expanding literature market, street theatre and entertainment, and a blossoming schools and education programme. The festival takes place at venues across the town, including the Palace Theatre, Newark Library, the town hall, the castle grounds and even on the River Trent.
"We are excited about our 2022 festival and the return of live events where people can come together and be creative."
