Founder of Bottesford Friendly Bench wins at BBC Radio Leicester’s Make a Difference Awards




The founder of a programme designed to combat loneliness has received an award.

Lyndsey Young, CEO and founder of The Friendly Bench CIC, was the winner in the Together category at BBC Radio Leicester’s Make a Difference Awards 2023.

The award recognises people or groups who have broken down barriers and brought people together from diverse backgrounds to inspire real change in their communities.

“It was a real honour to be nominated and to be a finalist for BBC Radio Leicester Make a Difference Awards,” said Lyndsey.

“Although I was given the award, I was accepting on behalf of everyone who helps make The Friendly Bench CIC the success it is.

“Every month of the year our amazing network members bring hundreds of people together at our The Friendly Benches across the country, helping people make connections, build friendships, share skills and feel more valued and a part of the community that they live it.

The Friendly Bench, founded in 2018, aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation.
