Kathy and Elaine are taking part in Fright The Night, organised by Beaumond House
Two friends who were looking for their first 5k challenge are among the latest people to sign up for Fright The Night, organised by Beaumond House Community Hospice.
Kathy Horsfall, of Southwell, and Elaine Smith, from Yorkshire, met while on holiday in the Maldives in 2007. When they returned home, they kept in touch and visit each other on a regular basis.
They have just completed the Couch To 5k Challenge and Elaine said they were now ready to do a proper 5k run.
“The Beaumond House event is perfect as we have been involved with fundraising for the hospice in the past,” she said.
The pair are now working on their outfits for the Fright The Night and are planning to dress as skeletons.
“We are planning to run the whole distance,” said Elaine. “We are looking forward to crossing the line and dreading running out of steam as we are determined to run it all.”
Fright The Night is at Newark Showground on October 30. Registration and a Hallowe’en party starts at 4pm with the 5k getting under way at 7pm. In the past the hospice has organised 5k sunflower runs, colour runs involving multi-coloured paint, and last year held its first glow run.
Cathy Lowe, the hospice’s fundraising and marketing manager said: “Hallowe’en activities are becoming increasingly popular in this country and we wanted to do something which captured the imagination and tied in with the enthusiasm for dressing up at Hallowe’en. We are planning some fantastic stations, and runners can look forward to foam, critters and generally ghoulish activities.
“We are encouraging people to sign up really early as we think this run is going to be appealing to children, teenagers and adults alike and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed.”
