Nottingham Forest fans raise £1,149 for Mind to tackle taboo of men's mental health
A group of friends have raised £1,149 for a mental health charity.
The seven men, who all grew up in Newark, ran the Asda Foundation Sheffield 10k for Mind.
Liam Curry, 28, of Nottingham; Tom Cobb, 28, of Newark; Jake Harling, 26, of Witham St Hughs; Stuart Pollard, 28, of Nottingham; Steven Button, 27, of Newark; Kez Richardson, 28, of Sheffield; and Lewis Richardson, 26, of Newark, became friends through school and cricket clubs.
They have stayed friends over the years through their love of Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Liam said: "It went well. We all managed to finish, which was great.
"We started off running together but I got competitive and sprinted off."
Liam finished first out of the seven friends with a time of 55 minutes and has says he wants to do another one.
"Two or three of us are looking into running the 10k in Wollaton in November but even if we don't we'll certainly keep up the running.
"It would be good to do it again next year."
The group of friends decided to raise money for mind to tackle taboo surrounding men's mental health.
Liam said: "Mental health problems affect so many people.
"Members of the group running have suffered from, and still do, a variety of issues, and there is still a great taboo around discussing, being open and seeking help for them. It should not be like that.
"Mental health charities do not receive the funding they need, so it just seemed to make sense."
