There was drama in Newark town centre today when a car smashed into a shop window.

A red Mazda 2 crashed into the front of Monsoon on Stodman Street after the driver pulled out from a parking space on the other side of the street.

The driver, an 82-year-old woman, was shaken but not seriously hurt.

She was taken by ambulance to Lincoln County Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Mr Gianni Viscomi, 24, who works at the mobile phone shop opposite, saw the crash.

He said: “I was standing in the shop when this red car just smashed into the front of Monsoon.”

Another witness, Miss Joanna Lukowska, 21, said: “We heard a crash and someone shouted: ‘Oh no’. We looked down the street and there was this car jammed into the front of Monsoon.”

The window was broken and there was damage to the frontage. No one at the shop would comment.
