Owner of Newark’s fitness business Gorilla Man Fitness sets up JustGiving page to raise funds for a van

A familiar face in the fitness scene is making moves to improve the lives of the community with a fundraiser to expand his business.

Adam Savage, the owner of Gorilla Man Fitness, runs inclusive fitness sessions under his not-for-profit Community Interest Company to promote physical and mental health across the area.

The business owner has now launched a JustGiving page to raise £5,000 for a van that will help him to meet the growing demand.

Adam said: “This is important to me because I became a fitness instructor to help people, and with a van I can help more people.

“I can take more equipment because I am limited to what I can take in my car and I have grown beyond my car now as I am taking on more clients in the community and community groups.”

When Adam was just 11 years old, a car hit him at 90mph while he was on his bike, leaving him in a coma for six weeks, and his parents were told to expect the worst.

When he woke from his coma, he had to relearn everything and was told by the doctors that he would not walk again.

After a year in a wheelchair, he defied all the odds and managed to walk again, and he became a personal trainer to help others achieve their goals.

Adam is currently operating fitness classes in Newark, West Bridgeford, and Collingham, and has recently added a session in South Hykeham.

He added: “It will benefit the community because I can take more groups on and take on more clients.

“I have increased my earnings by 7% in the last 6 months compared to the previous six months and I haven't had to advertise; all my work is from referrals and word of mouth.”

He is raising £5,000 for the van, which will allow him to take more equipment to his classes, including the 10 hand bikes that he recently bought, thanks to a grant.

The new vehicle will also allow him to take his tractor tyre to training sessions.

He added: “It is hard to explain, but because of what I have been through in my life, all I want to do is help people in my life now, because if it wasn't for people giving up their time to help me, I wouldn't be here now.

“I have turned my weakness of my brain injury/disability into my strength to help other people.”
