Photos of Newark town centre from 1996 including Kirkgate, Middlegate and Stodman Street




The Advertiser has been documenting life in Newark and surrounding villages for more than 150 years and has amassed thousands of photographs.

We have delved into the archives to find this selection of images of Newark town centre taken 25 years ago in 1996.

While many of the streets are instantly recognisable, many of the businesses have now sadly gone.

Lombard Street is instantly recognisable, although many of the shops have changed.

How many of these shops do you remember on Stodman Street?

These scenes cover Middlegate and Boar Lane.

Kirkgate has hardly changed, with the Old Kings Arms and Old Post Office pubs visible.

Can you remember Cartergate before it was pedestrianised?
