The Newark Christmas Market and Winter Feast took place on Saturday and Sunday, with plenty to do and see to get everyone into the festive spirit.

The Market Place was thronged with people who shared in the enjoyment of the occasion.

The weekend featured a Christmas market, including festive food and drink, carol singing, local bands, and street entertainment.

Much of the entertainment was locally sourced.

There was a stage featuring music and a performing dog, while entertainers roved the cobbles, mingling with the public.

Organisers Newark Town Council said the event had proved worthwhile because it was the biggest and best-attended market weekend for a long time.

Market stalls sold out in advance.

Town council markets manager Ian Harrison said: “With 170 traders occupying 260 stalls and pitches over the weekend this was our biggest market weekend for many years.

“Footfall was high and traders reported excellent trade.

“There continues to be massive trading challenges for the high street and markets, but this again proves that when we provide what the public wants, people will attend and will spend.

“There was a great atmosphere. The professional street entertainers and the local musicians created a Christmas Market experience as good as any town in the East Midlands, and we thank the community for their support.”
