A popular cafe says it’s ready and proud to serve Newark’s newest community after it unveiled a second venue in Middlebeck.

Having opened in mid-November on Bowbridge Lane, the new Gannets is conveniently located at the gateway of Middlebeck, and close to the Sustrans route, making it the perfect stop-off for cyclists, runners, and walkers, as well as an ideal spot for residents and visitors to catch up with friends.

Developed over 700 acres of land, master developer Urban&Civic will transform Middlebeck into a bustling community over the next 15 years.

Established in 1979, Gannets Daycafe and Bistro is seen as the ideal business that will be a perfect match for the growing community.

A family-owned cafe with an impressive legacy of signature dishes using locally sourced and organic ingredients, Gannets has earned a reputation of providing delicious food for all - including for vegetarians and vegans - as well as daily choices of dairy and gluten free lunches, cakes and puddings.

Coinciding with Gannets’ 40th anniversary in Newark, the cafe is part of an ambitious development by Urban&Civic that will also include other shops and a convenience store.

“We are delighted to support local businesses where possible, and are thrilled to welcome Gannets, a much-loved, well-established venue, which shares our approach to quality,” said Johanne Thomas, Communities and Partnerships for Urban&Civic.

Breakfast is served from Mondays to Saturdays until 11am and on Sundays until 12pm.

“Middlebeck will be home to a host of first-class facilities at its heart, from our primary school opening in September 2021 and café to open green spaces, and we are certain Gannets will become a great addition to Middlebeck’s growing community.”

Initially opening throughout the daytime from Wednesday to Sunday, Gannets Middlebeck boasts a contemporary, urban design and will seat approximately 30 diners.

Guests can enjoy a menu of homemade dishes using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, from hearty breakfasts, healthy lunches, and sweet treats.

There are also daily specials, as well as gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available.

Neil Stevens, the owner of Gannets, added: “Gannets Middlebeck serves breakfast, lunch and cakes, all of which are fresh and homemade.

“The breakfast menu features everything from a traditional, veggie and vegan grilled breakfast to breakfast baps, eggs benedict, smashed avocado and French toast.

“Lunch options include a selection of hearty dishes also available to go, including traditional beef lasagne, mushroom and hazelnut lasagne, quiche, jacket potatoes and more.

“There is also a variety of homemade cakes, hot drinks and soft drinks.”

Developed over 700 acres of land, master developer Urban&Civic will transform Middlebeck into a bustling community over the next 15 years, with 3,500 homes - comprising two, three, four, and five-bedroom houses - a primary school, GP surgery, open spaces and community facilities.
