Garages to make way for homes
Almost 40 garages are to be demolished to make way for new properties for Newark and Sherwood Homes.
Three applications for the homes were approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee.
Five two-bedroom homes will be built on an area of Grange Road, Newark, currently used for 20 garages.
The committee approved plans for a two-bedroom and a three-bedroom property on The Willows, Farndon, on the site of six garages.
An application for a two-bed bungalow on Almond Grove, Farndon, was also approved — 12 garages will be demolished to make room.
Mrs Sue Saddington was concerned the loss of the garages on Almond Grove would leave people without parking facilities.
“One lady I spoke to said she used her garage and if we took this away there would be nowhere to park,” Mrs Saddington said.
She suggested creating a hand-standing area for cars on grassed space outside homes on Almond Grove.
