Inspire Newark Buttermarket launches spring arts and crafts courses

A learning centre has launched its new season of Spring courses — encouraging people to get crafty.

As the days get longer and the weather warmer, Inspire Buttermarket, in Newark, is offering a range of new courses in everything from paper crafts to patchwork.

The courses are £3.50 per hour, or free for people on certain benefits.

On Thursday mornings, from April 24, the centre will offer a hand sewn felt course, focused on butterflies and moths.

Attendees can learn different techniques to construct decorative pieces using embellishment and simple sewing techniques.

The course will last for five weeks.

On Wednesday afternoons from April 30, a four week course will delve into Indian block printing, print and stitch.

The course will explore creating prints with traditional carved blocks from India, and how to embellish them with stitching and accessories.

Also from April 30, on Wednesday evenings, another four week course will focus on creating patchwork from block printed fabric.

A beginner’s paper crafts course — to make flowers, butterflies, goldfish, frogs, festive decorations and ‘pop-up’ greetings cards — will begin on May 13, on Tuesday afternoons.

It will run for five weeks.

On May 16, a half-day Cricut Joy for beginners workshop will teach attendees how to use the cutting machine to make a personalised zip bag.

The final spring term course will be a beginner’s course in mixed media art, starting on June 3 and running on Tuesday afternoons.

It will introduce different ways of creating images using collage, paint, pen and inks, and stencilling.
