Asda Newark is calling on the community to ‘give a gift’ this Christmas for vulnerable children.

The new store, based on Lombard Street, has teamed up with local children’s charity, Sue’s Place, to encourage people to donate an extra present this year which will be handed out at its annual Christmas party.

The charity has been running for nine years and its team of professionals offer support to children who are suffering from grief brought on by death, divorce and separation of a loved one.

Chris Rafferty, store manager at Asda Newark, said: “Christmas is a time for smiles, especially among children.

"Sue’s Place does unbelievable work with vulnerable children in the community and the whole store is getting behind this campaign, so we are calling on everyone to spare a present and bring some cheer to children who have been through some torrid times.”

Sue Tomlinson, founder of Sue’s Place, said: “We really appreciate the support Asda has shown with this campaign.

"We look after children from the age of three right up to 18 and all of them have lost what we would call their core family.

"This is tough at the best of times but can be even worse over a family holiday, such as Christmas.

"We hope the people of Newark will help to bring a smile to their faces over the festive period.”

Asda Newark is looking for present donations to be handed in at the store’s foyer before Sunday December 18.
