Gifts packed for delivery

Volunteers at the Newark Salvation Army centre on Mead Way, Balderton, wrapped hundreds of children’s Christmas presents on Friday.

Around 1,000 small toys, books, accessories and cuddly toys have been donated to The Salvation Army toy appeal. One donor knitted 20 dolls.

About 30 volunteers had just four hours to wrap the presents before they were due to be delivered throughout Newark.

Volunteers sorted the toys into packages for boys and girls of different ages.

The project has been organised by volunteers Mrs Heather Dicks and Mrs Pauline Catley (pictured).

Mrs Dicks (on the right) said: “We do it because we don’t want any family to miss out.”

“We don’t like to have any family having any less than we would,” Mrs Catley said.

The appeal, which began just over ten years ago with a handful of gifts, has grown to involve delivery of about 250 bundles of presents.
