Gok Wan calls on Balderton woman's boutique business for a second time in a year
A fashion enthusiast has been invited to work with celebrity stylist Gok Wan for the second time in a year.
Hannah Smith, of Balderton, started her own online fashion business, New Mode Boutique, two years ago, when the youngest of her three sons started school.
It took off quickly, and earlier this year she also opened her own boutique near her home on Main Street.
Last October she was asked to style models for television makeover star Gok Wan’s roadshow, Gok Wan One Size Fits All, in Nottingham.
Hannah was contacted by Gok’s team after they found her on social media.
They have been back in touch, this time inviting her to style ten models for Gok’s latest roadshow, in Cheshire.
Hannah went to The Mere in Knutsford at the weekend, with her Mini car loaded with outfits for ten models, in sizes from 8 to 20.
She received photographs and details of the models in advance, and how she styled them was left entirely to her.
“When they rang they said they loved what I did last year and wondered if I would like to join them again,” she said.
“I jumped at the chance. It’s a luxury hotel in the area where the Real Housewives of Cheshire live.”
Hannah chose looks from her autumn/winter collection, including some taking inspiration from the 1980s and 1990s, featuring shoulder pads and big sleeves.
She chose a different look for each model, from comfortable onesies to relax in, to cosy jeans-and-jumper combinations for everyday style.
Hannah also chose all the accessories to complete the looks, including jewellery, bags and shoes.
Like last time, her own outfit was the farthest thing from her mind, as she focused on choosing her models’ looks.
“It was a last-minute thing for me as normal,” she said.
She said it had been lovely to catch up with Gok again, “He is so down-to-earth, easy-going, and really friendly and welcoming,” she said.
Hannah has always loved clothes and fashion and, after taking a break from work to have her three sons, felt the time was right to start her own business.
Hannah, who was born and brought up in Newark, and went to the former Sconce Hills and Lilley and Stone schools, said: “Ever since school, my friends said I was destined to do this, but it has been a bit of a whirlwind.”
