Golfer swings into action for 100 holes

A golfer completed an impressive feat on the course to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Mr Ian Evans, 52, of Newark, completed 100 holes in a day at Orchards Golf Club at Brinkley, near Southwell.

He took on the challenge in honour of his best friend of 30 years and playing partner of more than ten years, who is being treated for cancer.

Mr Evans started at 4am, and completed the challenge in just over 15 hours, with only a single 15-minute break taken during the day.

Members of the Orchards Golf Club either played rounds alongside him or offered him support.

Mr Evans had aimed to play 100 holes in 24 hours, and finished in good time, just after 7pm.

"Everything on the day went smoothly, and as well as we could have planned," Mr Evans said.

"It was a lot of hard work and my legs and back were aching by the end, but it was always going to be a hard challenge.

"I am so grateful to all the people who came to support me and play me and have helped me through this — without them this wouldn’t have happened.

"My friend was able to come down for a few hours during the day, and his son played nine holes with me."

The day was completed under competition rules, with Mr Evans maintaining a good standard of golf throughout.
