Good causes get thousands of pounds of support from Newark supermarket




Five local good causes have received funding totalling £8,500 from the Asda Foundation.

Flower Pod Newark (part of Reach Learning Disability) provides outdoor therapeutic sessions for service users. They received a £1,994, Green Spaces Grant, which will be used to improve the site and to develop the area to make it more accessible all year round.

Another Green Spaces Grant for A total of £1,992 was awarded to the Association of Chuter Ede. The money will be split between both the Balderton and Fernwood school sites to develop fruit, vegetable and herb gardens for their 612 pupils to take care of. The funding will also be used to develop and a small play area for pupils to enjoy.

The Emmaus Trust, which helps vulnerable and homeless young people, received a Creative Grant worth £1,875. This will be used to purchase 5 food processors and healthy food for a 16-week cooking course for 36 young people.

A total of £1,652 was givenGreen Spaces Grant to The Friends of Barnby Road School, which will be used to develop growing areas for fruit and vegetables, which will be eaten by the children.

Normanton on Trent Village Hall Committee received a £991 Green Spaces Grant. The funding will be used to make its outside space into an inviting place for its service users to socialise and learn.

Asda Newark’s community champion Sinéad Hinch said: “We are delighted to fund these projects thanks to the Asda Foundation, to ensure that each group’s service users are able enjoy the spaces for years to come and to learn valuable life skills by helping to look after the projects.

“We are continually introducing new funding opportunities and adapting our ways of working so we can continue to support our community at a grassroots level.

“We are also seeking nominations for groups to take part in the Asda Foundation’s Green Token Giving Scheme.”
