Nottinghamshire one of flood-hit council areas to be reimbursed by Government's Bellwin fund
The Government has announced that it will activate the Bellwin fund to reimburse councils for costs incurred while dealing with the flooding.
Newark MP and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick confirmed this morning (Monday) that the fund will help flood-hit council, including Nottinghamshire, with their clean-up operation following this weekend's flooding.
This weekend has seen flooding in Lowdham and Bingham with road closures and evacuations from homes, and a red flood warning is now in place for areas of Newark and Farndon near the River Trent, as well as tributaries including Thurgarton, Aslockton and Whatton.
Mr Jenrick said: "I would like to say a big thank you to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and Nottinghamshire Police for all their efforts over the weekend and today.
"If anyone needs any assistance, please get in touch with one of my offices. The Newark office can be contacted on 01636 612837 and the London office can be contacted on 0207 219 7335."
In addition to the Government funding, Nottinghamshire County Council is re-activating the Emergency Assistance Fund arrangements, last used in November 2019, to provide immediate financial assistance to those in most immediate need.
