Reach Learning Disability Flower Pod, Southwell, made more accessible with the help of St James Place volunteers
A team of financial advisers have helped improve accessibility at a learning disability charity’s outdoor space.
A team from St James’ Place launched Reach Learning Disability’s ‘Access All Areas’ project at Flower Pod Southwell, to improve accessibility for it’s clients, who are adults with learning disabilities.
Flower Pod enables clients to develop skills for greater independence through horticultural therapeutic activities.
The 19-strong St. James’ Place team joined Flower Pod staff, volunteers and clients to build accessible planters in the polytunnel, and install a new handrail on the path to the learning garden — an area which some clients have found difficult to access in the past.
Nicola Bradley, Flower Pod centre manager, said: “We were delighted by the team’s hard work and enthusiasm. They got through so much — we hope to welcome everyone back next year.
“In the meantime, we plan to excavate the area ready for laying a patio. One of our wonderful volunteers completed the Virtual London Marathon to raise the funds for this vital piece of work.”
The team also helped Reach to secure a grant of £3,342 from the St James’ Place Charitable Foundation.
