Christmas church services across the Advertiser area, including Newark, Southwell, Bingham and Ollerton




For many Christmas is a time of prayer and reflection, and here’s when and where services are taking place across the area.

Newark Parish Church’s annual services will go ahead, at alternative venues due to the church’s closure.

On Sunday, a contemporary Christmas celebration is at the Mount School at 11am, and at 5pm a festival of nine lessons and carols is at Hope Community Methodist Church.

On Christmas Eve, a Christingle service will be held at 4pm at the Mount School.

At 11.30pm Midnight mass will be held at Hope Community Methodist Church.

On Christmas Day, at 9.30am a joint Christmas service will take place at Hope Community Methodist Church.

At 10am, a family contemporary Christmas service will be held at the Mount School.

St Leonard’s Church will host carols around the tree at 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newark, has the First Mass of Christmas at 4pm on Christmas Eve, followed by carols and Midnight Mass at 11.30pm. On Christmas Day there is a service at 11am.

There is also a service at 9am at Our Lady Of Victories, Southwell.

Charles Street Methodist will host Carols by Candlelight at 6pm on Sunday, and a Christmas Eve Holy Communion at 7pm.

The Christmas Day family service will take place at 9.30am.

London Road Congregational Church will hold a Christmas Café Service, including breakfast, on Sunday at 10.30am, and then on Christmas Day will hold a service at 10am.

Balderton Methodist Church’s Christmas Day service will take place at 10.30am.

At Southwell Minster there will be a Cathedral Carol Service on Monday at 7pm.

On Christmas Eve two Crib Services will be held, at 11am and 2pm. At 3.30pm there will be a Christmas Eve Evensong, followed by a second Cathedral Carol Service at 7pm. The Eucharist of Christmas Night is at 11.15pm.

On Christmas Day the cathedral will begin services at 8am with Holy Communion and Carols, followed by the all-ages Christmas Day Cathedral Eucharist at 10am.

At 11.15am the Festal Mattins will take place, before the Evening Prayer with Carols at 3.30pm.

Southwell Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Day All Age Worship at 10am.

In Bingham, St Mary’s Parish Church will hold two Christmas Eve services, a crib service at 4pm and a communion at 9pm.

On Christmas Day a communion service will take place at 9am, and a family worship will take place at 10.30am.

Bingham Methodist Centre will host a Christingle afternoon on Saturday, from 2pm. On Sunday, there will be an all-age nativity at 10.30am, and Carols by Candlelight at 6pm.

On Christmas Eve midnight communion will begin at 11.30pm, and on Christmas Day an all-age worship will happen at 10am.

A Christingle is at St Paulinus’ Church, Ollerton, at 4pm on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day Holy Communion at 10.30am.

A midnight Holy Communion will be held at St Giles Church, Ollerton, on Christmas Eve, starting from 11.30pm.

North Muskham Methodist Church has a Christingle on Christmas Eve at 5.30pm.

Collingham Methodist Church will host a Christmas Day service at 9.30am.
