A guide to Newark, Southwell and Bingham church services this Christmas




The following church services are due to be held over the Christmas period, subject to coronavirus restrictions:

Newark Parish Church:

The Christingle service is at 4.30pm on Christmas Eve, followed later by the Midnight Eucharist at 11.30pm.

On Christmas Day, there is family communion, at 10.30am.

The Boxing Day service is at 10am on December 26.

Southwell Minster:

On Christmas Eve, hour-long Crib services will be held at 11am and 2pm for families. Children are invited to dress as characters from the Christmas story.

Christmas Eve Evensong is at 3.30pm and the Cathedral Carol service from 7pm.

Later in the evening, from 11.15pm to midnight, the Eucharist of Christmas Night service will be held, with Christmas hymns sung by Southwell Minster Chorale.

On Christmas Day, Holy Communion with carols will be at 8am and the principal Eucharist service is at 10am.

There will also be Festal Mattins at 11.30am, Holy Communion at 12.30pm and Evening Prayer with carols at 3.30pm.

St Leonard’s, Newark:

St Leonard’s Church will host a Crib service at 2.30pm on Christmas Eve and Holy Communion at 9am on Christmas Day.

Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Newark:

A Christmas Mass will be held at 6pm and midnight on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas day there will be a service at 10am.

Charles Street Methodist Church, Newark:

Christmas Eve Communion will be held at Barnbygate from 7pm, joint with Hope Community.

On Christmas Day a Christmas Celebration will be held at 9.30am.

The first Sunday of Christ-mas service will be held at 10.30am on Boxing Day.

Holy Trinity Church, Southwell:

On Christmas Eve, there will be a family Nativity service at 4pm and Midnight Communion from 11.15pm.

On Christmas Day, a One Church Celebration with Communion will be held at 10am.

North End Methodist Church, Newark:

The North End Christmas Celebration will be held at 10.30am on Christmas Day.

London Road Congregational Church, Newark:

The Christmas morning service is at 10am on Christmas Day.

Christ Church, Newark:

A family Christingle service will be held at 4pm on Christmas Eve, followed by Midnight Communion at 11.30pm.

The church will hold a Christmas Morning Worship at 10am on Christmas Day.

St Giles’ Church, Balderton:

Christingle services take place at 2pm and 4pm on Christmas Eve. These are ticket-only this year.

Midnight Eucharist starts at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve.

There is a family service at 10.30am on Christmas Day.

All Saints’, Coddington:

Midnight Eucharist is at 11.3pm on Christmas Eve.

On Boxing Day, Family Communion is held at 10am.

St Mary’s and All Saints’ Church, Bingham:

Midnight Communion starts at 11.15pm on Christmas Eve.

A family worship service is at 11.30am on Christmas Day and there is Said Communion Service at 9am on Boxing Day.

Bingham Methodist Church:

Christmas Eve Midnight Communion will be held at 11.30pm.

On Christmas Day there will be an All-Age Worship at 10.30am.

The church’s Boxing Day service will be streamed on YouTube, rather than in person.

St Paulinus’ Church, Ollerton:

The Christingle service takes place at 4pm on Christmas Eve.

St Giles’ Church, Ollerton:

Midnight Holy Communion starts at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve.
