Kate Victoria Hair and Beauty in Newark is hiring and appeals for information on its building's ghostly goings-on
A newly-opened salon is hiring and appealing to the public for information on its building’s haunted history.
Kate Richardson opened Kate Victoria Hair and Beauty, her very first business, in April last year at 33-35 Cartergate, Newark.
The grade II listed Georgian building went through extensive renovations to convert a former flower shop into the hairdressing and beauty salon.
Out of all the buildings Kate visited, she choose that one becaused of its “own character.”
She said: “I have clients coming in saying it used to be haunted, which I’m sure it is, at least upstairs because my battery lights go on and off.
“That’s one way to find out more things about it, because I’m into stuff like that.”
When doing the renovations, builders found old wallpapers dating back to the 1800s in what is now the treatment rooms upstairs, which raised Kate’s curiosity levels.
Kate said: “I know that the building has been a flower shop and a wool shop in the past, and that there was a chocolate factory behind it, but I would love to know more about the building’s history.
“If anybody remembers the previous businesses that were here, or had family who lived or worked here, please get in touch.”
Kate is looking for two people to work on a self-employed basis in the upstairs part of the building.
A level two qualified senior hairstylist with at least three years of experience and a senior beautician qualified in massages are wanted.
Contact Kate on 01636 613994 for more information on that, or the building’s past.
