Half-term activities in Newark and surrounding areas for two weeks of family fun




The Newark Advertiser has put together a guide of half-term activities in Newark and Sherwood to help keep children of all ages entertained.

The holidays will be packed full of fun for the whole family with a range of sports, play and Halloween events.

Below is all sorts for children to get involved in, from messy play to fitness

Little Learners and Caterpillar Music is offering Halloween messy play classes for children from five months to age five.

Wednesday, October 20 — 10.30am to 11.15am at Coddington Community Centre

Friday, October 22 — 12.30pm to 1.15pm at Beanblock Café

Monday, October 25 — 10.30am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 2pm at Fernwood Village Hall

Dynamix Dance Academy is hosting a Halloween dance camp at Fernwood Village Hall for kids aged four to seven, and seven and over.

Seven and over group; Wednesday, October 27 — from 9.30am to 3.30pm, £25 per child

Four to seven age group; Thursday, October 28 — 9.30am to 12.30pm, £12.50 per child

The YMCA Activity Village is offering open family sessions from 9am to 12pm every morning. A timetable of youth tennis, football, netball and basketball will take place from 1pm to 3pm on half-term weekdays.

Youth sessions are for 11 to 17 year olds and cost £2 per person.

They are limited to 30 people on a first come, first serve basis.

Family sessions involve a variety of sports and use of the athletics track.

Newark Sports and Fitness Centre's half-term timetable includes extra public swimming sessions, sports camp and junior fitness for children aged eight to 13.

The sports camps will be on Thursday, October 21 and 28, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The session includes a variety of sports, swimming and access to the fitness suite.

Sessions must be pre-booked and paid for on Leisurehub or at reception by 8am on the day of the activity.

Junior fitness allows children to use the fitness suite during the holidays.

Dukeries Leisure Centre is also hosting sports camp and junior fitness as well as additional swimming sessions.

The sports camp will be on Wednesday, October 27, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The session includes a variety of sports, swimming and access to the fitness suite.

Must be pre-booked and paid for on Leisurehub or at reception by 8am on the day of the activity.

Magnus Community Sports Centre is home to multi-sport holiday camps for the half term.

Multiple sports camps ranging from week-long to two-day experiences are being hosted at the sports centre.

Dates are from the start of half term to Friday, October 29, and the camps offer a selection of sports and games.

There are also activities for the whole family and plenty to do outdoors this half term

White Post Farm has half-term Halloween events including an evening Halloween by Torchlight and pumpkin picking.

The evening event is an opportunity to explore the farm after dark, meet spooky guests and take home a pumpkin.

Halloween by Torchlight runs on Saturday, October 23, Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

There is also an autism-friendly torchlight event with a sensory zone on Sunday, October 24.

Letsxcape Together Boardgame and Event Café is running The Great Pumpkin Hunt around Newark this half term.

The digital trail involves using mobile phones to find and interact with physical objects along the trail.

The hunt is held on multiple days through the second half-term week.

Wednesday, October 27 and Friday, October 29 — 10am to 1pm

Saturday, October 30 — 10am to 4pm

Sunday, October 31 — 10am to 3pm

Beanblock Café is hosting Halloween adventure family yoga by Peaceful Possums Yoga.

Monday, October 25 — Yoga for children aged three to ten and their families

There will be yoga, games, relaxation and crafts from 10am to 11.30am.

Rufford Abbey Country Park's Totally Spooky Woodland Trail is open for the half term for all the family.

The family-friendly spooky Halloween trail has puzzles to be solved and can be walked in the daytime or while illuminated in the evening.

The trail is open until Sunday, October 31.

Southwell Minster has a half-term family activity trail in the historic cathedral.

Booklets are available for free and children have the opportunity to spot architecture, hunt for creatures, design a stained glass window and light a candle.

The trail is open for the half term and no booking is required.

The National Civil War Centre is holding a costume-making event this half term.

The craft activity will be running from October 20 to 30 and participants will make their own historic hat, beard and collar.

During the holidays entry will be free to anyone in fancy dress.
