Halloween horror as a giant spider invades village cafe!
A spooky visitor at a café has been attracting plenty of attention ahead of Halloween.
Staff have decorated a large hay bale outside The Hay Barn Cafe, on the A616 at Kneesall, to look like a giant spider in the lead-up to its Halloween party on October 31.
The bale is wrapped in a black sheet to make the body. Its legs, which can be moved, are made of wood.
A bucket has been added to the body to make the face and its eyes are made of cistern floats with glow-in-the-dark paint.
Two wires covered in strips of fur have been added to the front of the face to make feelers.
Mr Will Smith, of Hay Barn Café, said: “We did it last year, but not to this extent, so we have upgraded it a bit.
“We had a Halloween party and it went really well so we thought we would do another.
“The spider is a focal point and sits well on the bank.
“We have had people driving past and stopping and taking pictures of it and it’s getting a lot of interest on Facebook.”
Mr Smith said the Halloween party was aimed at children in the village and surrounding area.
“It’s a nice community event because of the time of year and we will have Halloween games. We have various games in the farmyard and there’s food and drink,” he said.
Children are encouraged to go in fancy dress and there will be a pumpkin-carving competition.
Staff have previously decorated the hay bale as a sailing boat, to advertise a sale, and a pig.
