New buggy for Harley Smith of Farndon
By Charlotte Longstaff
A family have enough money to buy a new specialised buggy for a teenager with a rare disease.
Harley Smith,13, of Farndon, has nicolaides-baraitser syndrome (NCBRS) and was in need of a new buggy as he had outgrown his current one.
Lisa Smith, mother of Harley, said he had begun tipping his buggy over, due to it being too small for him.
The new buggy means Harley will be able to join his family on beach days.
Family member, Mr Bob Macrae-Clifton, of Newark, launched a fundraising campaign to buy a new and specialised buggy, that would help Harley greatly in day-to-day life.
Bob, alongside Harley's older brother, Wesley Smith, 25, swam 2 1/2- miles of the River Trent to help raise money.
The swimming challenge was a success and the money raised helped the Smith family to buy Harley a new buggy.
"The new buggy is a lot more comfortable for Harley and it has specialised beach wheels which will allow Harley to enjoy his holidays," his mum said.
The family said they are grateful for all the support they have received throughout the campaign, and are excited for the next, upcoming fundraiser Harfest.
Harfest is a music festival that will take place November 16-17 at the RAFA Club, Newark.
Surplus money raised will go to the Newark Orchard School, where Harley is a pupil.
