Big Bowls Weekend to be held at Newark Northern Bowls Club
Anyone interested in having a go at bowls is invited to join members at a club this weekend.
Newark Northern Bowls club, on Sherwood Avenue, is holding its Big Bowls Weekend for the first time — aiming to encourage new players to try out the sport. Members of the club will be on hand to guide new players, teaching them how to play.
Geoff Wilkinson, club committee member, said: “It’s a social activity, it’s competitive and it’s exercise. It really gets you going ans takes you away from everything as you concentrate.”
The open weekend will be held on May 28 and 29 at the club, with three sessions each day at 10am to 12pm, 12pm to 2pm and 2pm to 4pm.
Flat shoes are essential to protect the bowling green.
Geoff added: “We hope it will encourage people to join us as members
“It is an easy sport to take part in, and it is cheap.
“Come along and have a cup of tea or coffee and have a go at bowling.”
