Lovers’ Lane Primary and Nursery School, Newark, receive helping hand from Collingham Men In Sheds to revamp outdoor furniture
A school has been given a helping hand with the revamp of their outdoor wooden furniture.
Lovers’ Lane Primary and Nursery School, Newark, received help from Men In Sheds’ Collingham and district branch.
School head Jenny Hodgkinson said: “We have had a lot of things needed doing outside.
“Our benches are very old and were going rotten and some of the trellises were damaged so we had to keep the children away from it.
“But one of our governors put us in touch with the Men In Sheds, and they have replaced some of the wooden slats and got rid of all the splinters. Now the benches look like new again.”
Men In Sheds is a group of retired, former craftsmen with careers and skills ranging from professional engineers, science, wood turning, clock restoration and more, who undertake projects to benefit the community.
Two of the members, Derrick Watson and Jimmy Milner, visited the school.
Mr Watson said: “We were more than happy to help and it was a nice community project to do.
“We are pleased with how they turned out. It was good that we could up-cycle the benches rather than having to buy new ones.”
Lovers’ Lane has also benefited from a new boiler system, as well as a new kitchen thanks to the support of Collingham county councillor Mrs Maureen Dobson, who lobbied to secure the funding.
