Wayne Birkett GoFundMe page set up to help Newark victim of Nottingham attack as Valdo Calocane due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court charged with his attempted murder




A gofundme page has been set up by the family of a Newark man critically injured when he was hit by a van during the Nottingham horror attacks of last week.

The family of Wayne Birkett, who now lives in Nottingham, have set up the page to help with the costs associated with his recovery.

Mr Birkett is said to have been hit by the van after he got off a bus to stop early to stroll to his workplace, lightning protection company ABB Furse in the city.

On the page, Jenny wrote: “Hi my name is jenny, we as a family are asking for support and help for Wayne Birkett who was hit by the van in the Nottingham disaster.

“As you can appreciate Wayne is going to need a lot of help in his recovery and he could be off work for months or even if he will be able to return to work.

“With the cost of living and how things are these days any help and support would be greatly appreciated.”

Valdo Calocane is accused of triple murder and triple attempted murder and has been remanded to prison.

Valdo Calocane is charged with the murder by stabbing of University of Nottingham students Barnaby Philip John Webber and Grace Sashi O’Malley-Kumar, both aged 19, and primary school caretaker Ian Robert Coates, 65, on Tuesday of last week.

The 31-year-old, of no fixed address, also faces charges of attempted murder relating to three members of the public allegedly struck by Mr Coates’ stolen van.

Those victims were named as Sharon Miller, Marcin Gawronski and Wayne Birkett.

Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, Calocane gave his name as Adam Mendes, which his a name he also known by.

He was remanded to make a first appearance at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
