S.H.E UK and MENding help survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence move on

Two charities that help survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sexual and domestic violence, are holding a networking event.

S.H.E.UK and linked charity MENding will host the event at the Salvation Army, Balderton, where their office is based.

S.H.E.UK was founded in 1998 and aimed to help female survivors.

Later, it was recognised that there was very little out there for male survivors and, from that, came MENding.

Both charities offer short-term and long-term counselling for people of all ages.

In April, the Newark branch moved into the Salvation Army, having previously been located at Newark Mind and Change Grow Live.

The networking event is for anyone who would like more information about the charity and will offer people the chance to network with a variety of different charities.

The Newark team consists of Jill Alexander, a counsellor, support worker and a trustee, and Rachael Cumberland, a counsellor and operations manager for the charities.

Rachael said the event would be warm and welcoming.

“We have moved a fair bit in the past few years and we stopped getting referrals so we wanted to let everyone know we are still here,” she said.

“People think we have closed down, or don’t know who we are, but we are still here.

“The networking event will allow everyone to speak to charities or get information about S.H.E.UK and MENding.”

The event will take place on January 25, from 10am to 1pm.
