Here's a list of carol services taking place at churches in the Advertiser area in the run up to Christmas
Carol services and other services will take place at churches throughout the Advertiser area over the next week, as preparations for Christmas continue.
There are a host of carol services across the area with individual churches offering an individual take on things.
Here is a selection of those planned.
Newark Parish Church
For the first time this year, the church is having a dressed-up nativity service. Everyone is invited to go along dressed as their favourite Christmas character.
They need shepherds, angels, wise men, donkeys, sheep, Mary, and Joseph.
There is no need to rehearse or learn lines, as everyone will go through the Christmas story together on the day.
The all-age service takes place at 11.15am on Christmas Eve.
On Sunday, December 22, there will be a service of nine lessons and carols at 5pm.
There is a Christingle service at 5pm on Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve, and services at 8am and 9.30am on Christmas Day.
Southwell Minster
On Monday, December 23, the cathedral carol service will take place in the nave from 7pm to 8pm.
As well as hearing choral music sung by the cathedral choir, there is the chance to sing well-known Christmas carols.
On Christmas Eve, there are two crib services, which are a joyful opportunity for families to enter the Christmas spirit, with children dressing up as characters from the Christmas story.
They take place at 11am and 2pm in the nave.
Later on Christmas Eve, there is evensong in the quire at 3.30pm.
It will be a beautiful traditional service beginning to turn the corner from Advent into Christmas, sung by the cathedral choir.
Then there is another chance to hear the cathedral carol service, in the nave at 7pm.
At 11.15pm the minster holds its first Eucharist of Christmas, sung by Southwell Minster Chorale with well-known Christmas hymns.
Christmas Day there is Holy Communion in the quire at 8am, Family Eucharist at 9.30am, with music sung by the cathedral choir, festal mattins at 11.15am, with uplifting music by Britten and Warlock, and Holy Communion in the quire at 12.30pm.
The day’s services conclude with evening prayer with carols at 3.30pm, which is an opportunity for calmness after the festivities.
Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Newark
There will be a vigil mass at 6pm on Christmas Eve, and carols at 11.30pm on the same day, followed by Midnight Mass.
There will be mass at 10am on Christmas Day, and also mass at 10am on Boxing Day.
Barnbygate Methodist Church, Newark
There will be a carol service on Sunday, December 22, at 10.30am, and a joint Christmas Day service at Charles Street Methodist Church at 10am.
St Giles', Balderton
There is a nativity presentation at 9.30am on Sunday, December 22, and on Christmas Eve there will be a Christingle Service at 3pm and a Eucharist service at 11.30pm.
On Christmas Day, there will be a family service at 10.30am.
Holy Trinity, Southwell
There is a nativity service at 4pm on Christmas Eve, and a service of Holy Communion at 11.15pm.
On Christmas Day, there is Holy Communion at 8.30am and a One Church celebration at 10.30pm.
All Saints', Coddington
There is a service of lessons and carols at 4pm on Sunday, December 22, and a Christmas Eve Eucharist at 11.30pm.
All Saints', Barnby-in-the-Willows
There is a family communion at 10am on Christmas Day.
St Peter's, Farndon
There is a service of nine lessons and carols on Sunday, December 22, at 4pm, and on Christmas Eve there is a Christingle service at 4pm, and Eucharist at 10pm.
