Funeral to take place of hero Polish serviceman who died after reaching 100 years old
A Polish war hero wounded three times in combat has passed away after reaching his 100th birthday.
Lieutenant Edmund A Szymczak voluntarily joined the Polish Forces under General W. Anders and British Command.
He served in Egypt, Italy, and the United Kingdom and was honourably discharged in May 1948.
Lt Szymczak was awarded the 1939/1945 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, War Medal 1939/45, Egypt, Order Odrodzenia Polski, Polonia Restituta (PR), which was awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland, Medal Stulecia Odzyskanej Niepodległości, Ordery wojenne, Medal Pro Patria, Medal Pro Memoria, and many others.
A funeral service will take place at St Ambrose Church, Birmingham Road, Kiddermintser, DY102BY, on Friday at 1pm followed by burial at Kiddermintser Cemetery.
