Southwell Minster visited by historic stonework specialist for stonemasonry workshop
A workshop offering insight into historic architecture is to be held.
Specialist James Wright to lead the free half-day workshop at Southwell Minster on stonemasonry and the men who shaped the architecture of the medieval period. Booking is essential.
Rock of Ages — Medieval Stonemasons: The Architects Of Europe is on January 18, 2pm to 3.30pm, in the Chapter House.
It will look at quarrying, transporting, setting out, cutting, mason’s marks and fixing stonework, as well as the influence of stonemasons in the history of architecture and how that relates to new archaeological discoveries.
James Wright, of Triskele Heritage, is a buildings archaeologist and former conservation stonemason. He now acts as an historic stonework specialist and has worked at Nottingham Castle, Southwark Cathedral, Knole, Lincoln Cathedral and Reading High Bridge.
