Honour for Anthony Hill, of The Children's Society, who won a national volunteering award
A charity shop volunteer has won a national charity award.
Anthony Hill, 55, of Newark, who works at The Children’s Society, on Middlegate, said winning the national volunteering award was one of the biggest achievements of his life.
Anthony won the title as a result of his outstanding contribution and efforts to the Children’s Society, a national charity that support vulnerable children and young people.
“It proves I’m good at my job. I put my heart and soul into my work and love being able to make the children happy, said Anthony, who has worked at the children’s society since 2017.
“I know how to raise money and I know how to complete a challenge.”
Anthony said he sometimes dresses in fancy dress and wears wigs to make the customers and children laugh.
He is one of five volunteers from over 120 shops across the UK to win the award and shop manager Melanie Benna was on hand to present him the engraved glass plaque and certificate.
She said: “Anthony has a passion for organising and taking part in events, which have helped bring in much-needed extra funds.
“We have held market stalls at special events, and he has attended every single one.”
