Southwell householder's hopes of extending are thwarted by town council planning
Councillors have objected to a householder’s hopes of extending.
Southwell Town Council unanimously opposed an application that would see the removal of a garage and roof to create a one-and-a-half-storey house with raised walls.
The council said the plans, by Jacqueline Bonser, of Hadfield, opposite Newark Road, Southwell, were out of keeping with the vernacular of the road, overbearing and would cause a loss of privacy for neighbours.
Chairman of the planning committee David Marin said: “When I looked at this before it struck me as an absolute no-no.”
Luke Brudzinski, of Newark Road, said: “As a neighbouring tenant, we would lose privacy due to the building of the extension as it will be overlooking our garden area.”
Newark and Sherwood District Council will have the final say on whether the extension is built.
