Huge traffic delays as level crossing barriers at Newark Castle Station are stuck in down position

There are huge delays in Newark town centre tonight because the barriers at Newark Castle Station, on Great North Road, are stuck in the down position.

Police say a van collided with the barriers, causing them to stay in the down position.

Network Rail are on the scene carrying out repairs and police are helping to direct traffic.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
