Children form human chain around minster
A human chain was formed around Southwell Minster to highlight debt.
Children from the town’s schools joined members of the public and those from Southwell Churches Together for the event.
Among the schools to participate were Holy Trinity and Lowe’s Wong infants and Lowe’s Wong Junior.
Those gathered were highlighting the Jubilee Debt Campaign.
The Jubilee Debt Campaign is a UK charity working to end poverty caused by unjust debt through education, research and campaigning.
The event marked 20 years since 70,000 people formed a human chain on the streets of Birmingham, calling for debt cancellation for the world’s most indebted countries.
Southwell Methodist Church minister, the Rev Peter Hibberts, spoke to pupils in school assemblies about what the campaign stands for prior to the event taking place.
There were words of introduction before the chain was formed.
Children from the participating schools sang a pre-rehearsed song and the event ended with a prayer.
