Firefighters' clean-up job raises cash for charity
Firefighters in Newark raised hundreds of pounds for charity with a sponsored car wash.
Seven on-duty and ten off-duty firefighters washed cars and vans on Saturday at Newark Fire Station to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports the wellbeing of serving and former firefighters and their families.
They raised £455 for the charity by asking for a donation for each vehicle they washed at the fire station on Boundary Road.
Firefighter Mr Scott Hutchinson, charity representative at Newark Fire Station, said: "It was a successful day and we had plenty of volunteers here to help.
"All the money raised goes to families of firefighters and firefighters themselves who are recovering from injuries.
"Mental health is a big part of their charity as well.
"The charity ran a deficit last year so it's important we all do our bit to help."
Mr Hutchinson said the car wash had been well-supported.
"Some people put as much as £20 in there and most people donated between a few quid and a fiver," he said.
"A bus driver also gave us a fiver but he couldn't pull in for five minutes for a wash because he had a bus full of people."
