Newark Town Council objects plans for 6 The Crescent, Newark
A committee has objected to plans to replace two existing single garages with one annexe, fearing it would become residential.
The application for 6 The Crescent, Newark was objected to by the Newark Town Council planning committee on Wednesday (April 2).
Submitted by Sarah Melville, the proposed development would include a kitchenette, loft storage, workstation, a potential large sofa bed and a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
Barbara Corrigan said: “It looks like it is a little bungalow, it is a bit more than a fancy office in a garden.
“They are stretching the definition of the word annexe.”
The councillor objected on the basis that the application suggests a separate dwelling in the garden rather than just an annexe.
Other committee members such as Neil Ross and Laurence Goff didn’t raise issues as the new annexe isn’t affecting anyone and isn’t taking more space than the previous two garages.
Mrs Corrigan added: “If they want a second dwelling they should apply for it and not call it an annexe.”
The plans were objected by the majority of the committee.
