Westminster Abbey organist for Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral was former Southwell Minster organ scholar and worked with Cranmer Company of Singers
The organist for the Queen's state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday was a former scholar at Southwell Minster.
As sub-organist at Westminster Abbey, Peter Holder played before, during and after the service, which was watched by billions around the globe.
Mr Holder, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, was organ scholar at Southwell Minster from 2008-09.
Southwell Minster Choirs tweeted that they were immensely proud of him.
Mr Holder spent three years as sub-organist of St Paul’s Cathedral from 2014, before moving to Westminster Abbey in 2017.
As sub-organist, he is the principal organist for the abbey’s daily services and at state occasions. He also accompanies the renowned Westminster Abbey Choir in its concerts, recordings and broadcasts.
During his time as organ scholar at Southwell, Mr Holder was accompanist with the Cranmer Company of Singers based in the Vale of Belvoir.
Deborah Davies, of the Cranmer Singers, said he played for them at Salisbury and Hereford cathedrals, local concerts, including their annual Jubilee Hall Christmas concert, and countless rehearsals.
She said: "We trained him well!"
