In a spin at school hula hoop session
More than 100 children took part in a hula hoop activity day at Bishop Alexander Primary School in Newark.
The seven to 11 year olds, in years three to six, took part in sessions led by Hoop Guy Mr John Parnell, who teaches and performs and who travelled from Nuneaton.
Many pupils already attend weekly hula hoop sessions led by teacher Miss Rebekah Boynes.
Her Hoop Troupe has performed at the Magnus Church of England School, Newark, and has entered competitions since being formed two years ago.
Six groups of 20 children joined Miss Boynes at the 40-minute sessions on Monday.
The sessions took place alongside the children’s regular timetable, which includes two sessions of PE a week.
“These sessions are about being fit and having fun,” she said.
“The children are getting a hard cardio-vascular workout — but they don’t know that.
“The children who shine are often not the ones who shine in the classroom.”
