HMP Lowdham Grange prison officer hospitalised after being attacked by prisoner
A prison officer had to be treated in hospital after being attacked by a prisoner.
The incident occurred at HMP Lowdham Grange, a category B men's prison in Lowdham, on April 17, and is now under investigation.
The officer spent some time in hospital but has since been released.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prison officer was treated in hospital after an attack by a prisoner at HMP Lowdham Grange. Police are now investigating so it would be inappropriate to comment further.
“Violence in prison will not be tolerated, and we will always push for the strongest punishment for attacks on our hardworking staff.”
HMP Lowdham Grange was taken over by the Ministry of Justice in December 2023, from its previous private operators, after an inspection uncovered a host of issues — including drugs, self-harm and poor healthcare — at the facility.
