IPCC to investigate police contact with Newark woman prior to her death
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating contact between Nottinghamshire Police and a woman prior to her death in Newark.
Denise Skilbeck, 31, was found dead at a property in The Wharf area of Newark on March 16. A postmortem showed she died of a head injury.
Mr Gary Spalding, 34, was subsequently charged with her murder and has been remanded in custody.
Nottinghamshire Police referred the death to the IPCC on March 17, because of prior police contact with the woman.
The police contact dates from May, 2008, to March 13 of this year, and relates to a number of domestic incidents.
After assessment the IPCC has decided to begin an independent investigation.
The IPCC has informed Denise Skilbeck’s family of its involvement.
