Kelham Hall maize maze will grow an inch a day

Pupils visited the site of a maize maze due to open in the summer.

A class from Winthorpe Primary School visited Kelham Hall and Country Park to see the field — on the land of farmer Mr Adrian Hatton — where the maze will take shape.

Growing at an inch a day, the maize will be allowed to reach 4ft high before the owner of the hall, Mr Jonathan Pass, cuts the shape of the maze.

It will then be allowed to grow further before the maze opens in July.

The exact date is not yet known as the growing period is dependent on the weather.

Kelham Hall’s business development manager, Mrs Nicki Glencross, said: "The pupils are going to use the growing of the maize in their current science work.

"It will be great for them to come back and see it when it has grown fully."
