Labour MP's A & E concerns

Bassetlaw MP Mr John Mann will speak at a public meeting about Newark Hospital after expressing concerns about the future of its A & E department.

Mr Mann, who ran a successful campaign to keep Bassetlaw Hospital's A & E department open in 2003, will attend the meeting at Chesters, Main Street, Balderton, on Monday.

The Labour MP contacted the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Newark, Dr Ian Campbell, about the proposals for the town's A & E as part of NHS Nottinghamshire County's Newark Healthcare Review.

Dr Campbell, a practising GP, said Mr Mann had approached him because he saw similarities between the situation in Newark and what happened in Bassetlaw.

The meeting, at which Dr Campbell will also speak, starts at 7.30pm.
