Labour has gained another seat on Newark and Sherwood District Council following a by-election yesterday.
Andrew Freeman will now represent Edwinstowe and Clipstone on the council.
He secured 804 votes compared with the 540 cast for Conservative candidate Nigel Booth.
Mr Freeman wrote on Facebook: "Thanks to everyone who took the time out of their day to vote for me.
"It will be a pleasure to represent all residents in the ward on Newark and Sherwood District Council."
It takes the number of Labour seats on the district council to seven.
The Conservatives are the ruling party with 29 seats while the Liberal Democrats have two and there is one independent.
The by-election was called in Edwinstowe and Clipstone following the death of Conservative councillor Michael Brown.
