Ladies Day at Southwell Racecourse was a huge success once again
Ladies in all their finery flocked to Southwell Racecourse for the Advertiser Ladies Day on Sunday.
The highlight of the racecourse’s social calendar, more than 8,500 people came from across the country to the races, an increase on last year’s gate, to enjoy a flutter on the races or just to enjoy the atmosphere.
Racecourse chief executive Mark Clayton said the event has gone from strength to strength, and it was great to see not only guests coming with friends, but also families with children, parents and grandparents enjoying the day.
He said: “We’ve been blessed with the weather. It’s a fantastic event for the district.
“It’s great to be in association with the Advertiser.
“The event has gone from strength to strength and we’d like to say thank you to our sponsors.
“Everyone has been enjoying themselves and it’s not just lots of well-dressed ladies we’ve had.
“We’ve seen lots of families with daughters, grand-daughters, mothers and fathers all here. There’s a lovely atmosphere.”
Gates opened for guests at 11am and the first of the seven races began at 2.20pm.
The winner of the first race, the Alea Casino Nottingham Novices’ Handicap Chase, was Kildaven Spider.
The winners of the other races were Utility, Royal Village, Theatrebar, Desert Point, Duck Egg Blue, and Boher Lad.
The best dressed lady competition was held at 5.30pm, with 90-year-old Lois Lightfoot, from Papplewick, coming in first place.
Music from Elvis Presley tribute act J D King followed. See the full gallery here:
